Facebook’s Facelift, Pt. 1: Why people should stop complaining and embrace the change

So f8, Facebook’s annual developer conference, has come and gone and left us tired and confused. I promise that’s the only “Hangover” reference I’m going to make today. Anyway, the top story was Mark Zuckerberg and Andy Sandberg’s awkwardness at the beginning of the keynote. Which was worse, “Zuck dog’s” lame jokes or the uncomfortable silence after? I say the lack of laughter.

On to more important things, if you could get through the debilitating nerdiness (who am I to judge, I almost skipped class to watch it) there was a total redefinition of what it means to have a Facebook. We’ll get into the bells and whistles later this week, but first I have to get something off my chest.

My pet peeves are people who do not like Harry Potter, people who don’t like to read for leisure, and people who complain about changes to Facebook. As you can imagine it’s not a good week for me. Don’t worry, I brought examples. Note, these examples are reacting to the revamp of the news feed, not Timeline. When Timeline goes live I will go crazy.

Joe here just got acclimated to the previous Facebook setup. Wasn’t it like a few years old? Talk about a learning curve.

Meet Greg. He is brash. Making a decision like this out of anger isn’t good. Just like texting an ex or ordering take-out. Think before you do.

Bonus points for the Happy Days reference but I must disagree.

Not everyone was up in arms though. Some people get it.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Well probably but that isn’t the point. If your biggest problem right now is Facebook’s new interface, you’re good. Take a minute and do some research on how it works, I have a sneaking suspicion that you’ll be fine.

Even some internet meme’s got into the action! At least Xhibit gets it. Also if you don’t, just accept it. The youth are strange.

If I had to pick one status to express my feelings it would be that one time when Kanye West talked about going to Nobu without shoes on. If I had to pick one tweet to express my feelings on this subject it would be this.

If history taught us anything, Stick with Zuckerberg and you’ll get a movie written by Aaron Sorkin that wins a bunch of Oscars. Isn’t that what we all want?

Final note: Facebook is not going to make you pay. Facebook is run by some pretty smart dudes and they realize that if they charged money they would lose 97% of users. The 3% that would be left are crazy and deserve each other.

So please, no more of this….
